The low-key E36 M3 debuted in February, 1992 and right out of the box it was praised for preserving the fire that ignited its legendary predecessor and pioneering many firsts.
It was the first M3 powered by a six-cylinder engine displacing 2990 cc and developing a fluidly available 282 hp. It was the first M3 to be built in right-hand drive and the first BMW generation to offer VANOS- a variable valve timing system that perpetually adjusts the engines camshafts so maximum torque is available under partial and full load. The E36 M3 is also one of the best-handling cars money can buy.At the time, it compared favourably against the NSX, F355, the Carrera S, and the Supra Turbo and its less ostentatious styling cleverly hid race-proven tech like aerodynamic side mirrors, front and rear aprons, motor-sport 17-inch lightweight alloys, arguably the finest sport seat ever manufactured and a 3-centimetre lower ride height than its less powerful siblings.
There’s a famous saying for the E36 Generation that goes, “those who become fans, mostly stay fans”. It’s the perfect storm of power, handling and supreme build quality. Available here is one of the first E36 M3’s sold in Australia and one of the few ever made by the factory in the hero colour Dakar Yellow.
Delivered new by Trivett Classic BMW, Sydney in March of 1994 and optioned with manual transmission and Alcantara “M” cloth interior, fastidiously maintained, this M3 looks, feels and drives like new.
One of the best we’ve ever seen, all tell-tale signs from the original and flawless interior trim with the correct stereo and M bucket seats that wrap around the driver perfectly to the mint original BMW Motorsport alloys and mirror finish paintwork show that this car has led a charmed life.
Supplementary to a recent extensive, no expense spared major service including new drive belts, plugs and fluids this M3 has also received refurbished front and rear suspension a new clutch and most importantly has undergone the stripping, cleaning and re-building of the VANOS unit by Marque specialists.
Accompanied by one of the best service records we’ve found that includes original owners’ manuals, warranty and service booklets with receipts too this M3 also comes with a complete and original tool kit, original keys and a host of factory options including, sunroof, wide pack wheels, 6 stacker cd with original head unit, factory alarm, cruise control, rear retractable blinds and chrome dash cluster rings.
It even still features the euro spec glove box re-chargeable torch.
One of the finest E36 M3’s in Australia, there’s never been a better time to secure this modern classic as this generation of Youngtimer collectables begins to climb stratospheric heights in interest and value.
Australian delivery is important too because we received higher-compression European engines producing forty-six more horsepower than its U.S. counterparts.
An appointment is a must to truly appreciate how well this 25-year-old M3 has been kept and experiencing the incredibly well-balanced drive will underscore why BMW are renowned for building the ultimate driving machines.
