Announced at the 1992 British International Motor Show, its launch being timed to coincide with the MGB's 30th anniversary, although recognisably related to its outrageously popular forerunner, the MG RV8 is wider, lower and sleeker, featuring fully integrated body-coloured bumpers and is of course, resoundingly more powerful and modern.
Creating brand-new MG B bodies from original factory tooling and jigs, beneath the power-bulge bonnet MG fitted the latest 3.9 litre Rover V8 engine.Tuned to produce a torquey 190hp and mated to a 5 speed manual transmission with a limited-slip differential, Koni telescopic shocks and an anti-roll bar this brilliantly fun front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sportster eliminates the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 5.8 seconds.
Among the last truly hand-built modern classics, the RV8 also features the finest English tradition of Stone Connolly leather seating, deep-pile carpeting and burr elm wood trim; its Tickford cloth convertible top was lined as well and the level of finish inside is top class.
In all Rover produced only 1,983 MG RV8’s and around 75% of those were exported to Japan with the remainder sold new in the UK and Europe. There were no left-hand drive cars produced which has seen this anniversary car remain exceedingly popular with collectors the world over.
The car offered is in stunning original condition. Imported to Australia from Japan by the MG Centre of Sydney in 2007 and travelling only 30,000 kilometres from new this exceptionally well-maintained car is a must see in its factory Woodcote Green over Stone Connelly leather trim.
Serviced by the same marque specialist since its arrival, totally ‘on the button’ today in original condition and resplendent in one of the ultimate British shades this collectable and eminently usable modern classic is prepped and ready to drive off the showroom floor with the top down.
Accompanied by its original owners manuals and log books this last of revival model is the perfect collectable to breathe some British grunt into your weekend drives.
