1996 Lotus Elan S2

Building on the legendary first-generation Lotus Elan from the 1960s, the new Elan launched in 1989 followed Lotus’ principles of an ultra-lightweight composite body attached to a rigid steel backbone chassis with a firecracker 1.6L turbocharged engine.

In 1995, after Bugatti acquired Lotus, the limited production Elan S2 was launched. It used the same Isuzu 1.6 litre turbo-charged engines as the earlier models but the S2 was lighter, the handling was sharper, larger 16 inch alloy wheels were fitted along with more comfortable leather bucket seats, electric-windows, a sports exhaust, ABS, remote central locking, A/C and a new aerodynamically designed soft-top.

The Limited Edition, Calypso Red 1996 Australian delivered Lotus Elan S2 offered here was one of the very last cars off the production line. Car number 230 is one of just 800 units made worldwide to mark the end of production of this rare and incredibly addicting car to drive.

Presenting in sensational original condition with zero modifications and travelled just 65,920 kilometres this Elan S2 still features it’s original 16 inch alloy wheels, a brand new soft-top, recent service and tune, major service completed at 58,000 kilometres, new battery and is accompanied by both sets of original keys and all log books and manuals.
