The very first Subaru WRX launched in 1994 was an instant success. It appealed to motoring enthusiasts around the globe for its unrivalled performance and its signature “Boxer Burble”.
Operating with a superior version of the flat-four 2.0 litre turbocharged unit first seen in the Liberty RS Turbo married with a symmetrical all-wheel-drive drivetrain, the Subaru WRX earnt its status very quickly as a “giant-killer” putting most 6 & 8 Cylinder cars to shame.Even in comparison tests against more exotic and expensive models, the ‘Rex’ was never disgraced.
It was proposition of a WRX Hatch (Wagon) that made things a little sensible for the auto-enthusiastic family man… you could drop the kids to school, take them camping or something like that, yet, still have the sportscar killer performance.
Today, these early wagons are quite hard to find, especially unmodified and without over 200,000 kilometres thus naturally resulting in a large cult following and earning the collectible status for a less travelled and original example.
CTS is excited to bring to market this absolute gem. Offered here is a 1998 Subaru Impreza WRX GC8 Hatch with just 38,500 kilometres travelled and presented in Reddish Blue Metallic over two-tone Black/Grey cloth interior.
This rare, early, SUPER low kilometre and unbelievably preserved Japanese icon must be seen to be believed.
A testament to the kilometres travelled, the exterior and the interior is virtually flawless with everything functional, well cared for and still present inside, including the leather Nardi steering wheel and gearshifter, factory radio/cassette player, and even the cigarette lighter with their respective matte finishes.
Accompanying the car are its original logbooks, detailing a full Subaru factory and specialist service history, the last service earlier this year with Subaru, complete set of factory keys and their original key fobs, the original toolkit, hatch privacy screen and spare wheel also remain with the car.
The WRX comes standard with power steering, power windows, ABS, bucket-seats, air-conditioning, leather gear leaver and steering wheel providing humble yet satisfying luxuries that comfort the driver whilst burbling around town ... or ploughing around a rally track on opposite lock.
WRX’s have been a popular choice for many motoring enthusiasts since its release. The early ‘GC8’ shape being the most desirable for its representation of the Peter ‘Possum’ Bourne and Colin McCrae cars that changed Subaru’s rallying reputation from fledgling to champion status.
