2001 Audi A2

On so many "Future Classic" lists but also those of "Great Motoring Disasters" the Audi A2 was ahead of its time in design, construction and style but the manufacturer lost €7,530 on every one they built.

A super economical motor aimed at a premium market, the A2 pioneered mass manufactured lightweight Aluminium Space Frame (ASF) design that saved a whopping 40% less weight over a standard steel bodied car and featured a small efficient 1.6L 4 cylinder engine that was designed to travel from Milan to Stuttgart on a single tank of fuel.

That’s better than most brand new eco cars.

True to Audi style, the A2 also offered optional premium features like the Luxury Package with larger 16-inch alloys, sunroof and aluminium finishes and climate control plus a Leather Package with a double stitched leather front and rear seats.

Produced in small numbers, it's said that today in Europe, a well-maintained example can fetch more than the new price and with approximately only 4 cars making their way to Australia, on this side of the world it’s an exciting find indeed.
