It’s hard to imagine how Porsche could improve on the already awesome first-generation 986 Boxster, and yet it did… Significantly.

Porsche’s position at the top of the roadster performance market has held firm from day one with the exciting driving dynamics of the 986 1997 Boxster with a 2.5-litre flat six-cylinder engine.

Since then the Boxster has gone through two more series, including an engine upgrade to 2.7 litres in 2000, a performance hike in 2003 and February of 2005 saw the arrival of the vaunted Series 987 generation 4 Boxster in Australia.

With a hint of the million-dollar Carrera GT in the front and rear styling, changes inside and beneath the skin are equally evolutionary.

The rear-drive, mid-engine layout remains and new in is a faster variable ratio steering rack (inherited from the 911), short throw manual transmission, wider front and rear track, bigger wheels larger brakes and of course, more power raising to a whopping 176 kilowatts.

The electric-folding soft-top can be raised and lowered at speeds up to 50km/h and climate control air-conditioning, electric windows and mirrors, remote central locking, CD stacker, cruise control and electric seat recline are all fitted as standard.

The simply superb car offered here is a 2005 Porsche 987 Boxster delivered new by Porsche Centre Sydney South and ordered in Guards Red over Black leather trim, travelled just 37,715 kilometres.

Complete with a factory service history, receipts for works and both original keys with Porsche keyrings, this near new Boxster would have to be the best available on the market.

The connection between driver and car is quick through the throttle and the engine barks deeply behind your head through the centre mounted exhaust. Pedal positions are spot on and tailor-made for heel-toeing, the gearshift action is so precise and fluid and sitting in the exceptionally well maintained interior is a treat.

Unrivalled in its class and so much fun to drive, this low kilometre and amazingly well maintained Porsche Boxster 987 is incredible bang for your buck.
