In armed fighter jets like the Eurofighter or an F16 Fighting Falcon, they are intentionally designed to be aerodynamically unstable to improve manoeuvrability and use a highly complex fly-by-wire system which constantly controls the trimming of the aircraft in normal flight in a way no human could.

Ferrari has designed the track-only Ferrari 599XX chassis in a very similar way with its very clever ESP system integrated into the suspension design to allow the driver to get the very best out of the car around a corner. To homologate the XX, Ferrari produced 599 road cars and these were to be branded like their fathers before them… the Gran Turismo Omologato, more commonly known as the GTO.

When it was released you had to be specially invited by Ferrari to own a set keys to 1 of the 599 examples built worldwide.

With 10 cars arriving on Australian shores out of the 60 right-hand drive cars produced, this is no “jumped up 599”. The GTO uses formula one technology such as F1-Trac with advanced electronic stability control and SCM2 suspension control.

Over the standard 599, the GTO features superior magnetorheological dampers adjusting to the road surface in milliseconds. It uses wider tires at the front and the rear, all-new carbon ceramic Brembo brakes with special carbon-fibre cooling inlet rams and aero brake coverings and it is 100 kilograms lighter.

However, the best bit is at the front… well middle… but in front of you… never mind.
At the time it was Ferrari’s flagship powerplant, the 6.0 litre naturally aspirated V12 set nice and low right behind the front axle providing perfect weight distribution and a lower centre of gravity. It was inherited from the Enzo, however it now produces 661 hp.

Offered here is an Australian delivered, one owner 2011 Ferrari 599 GTO ordered in Rosso Formula One 2007 Metallic two-tone over Grigio Silverstone Opaco.

It is in immaculate condition throughout, accompanied with its original Ferrari leather wallet, books and keys and has travelled just 11,281 kilometres since new.

The GTO features a Carbon Fibre Driving Zone, Carbon Fibre Exterior Package, Carbon Fibre Racing Seats, Carbon Diffusor, Splitter & Skirts, Carbon Fibre LED Steering Wheel, Embossed "GTO" Head Rests, Giallo/Yellow Instrument Dials, Scuderia Racing Shields, 20 Shadow Alloys, Rear Parking Sensors, Carbon Fibre Dash Facia, Alcantara Centre Console and an upgraded HiFi System.
