2014 McLaren 650S Spider MY15

McLaren claimed that the 650S was the product of lessons learnt whilst building not only the MP4-12C but also more sophisticated and faster McLaren P1.

Keeping the fundamentals, the Carbon Tub and its Twin-Turbo V8, Woking confirmed more than a quarter of the car was new.

From the P1-Inspired headlight design to all new pistons, redesigned cylinder head, new exhaust valves and cooling circuits helping to deliver an output of 641 horsepower to its rear wheels, the 650S exceeded expectations.

For those whom haven’t had the opportunity to drive a McLaren before, the 650S is around the racetrack like most stripped-out road racers, yet, it is hand assembled in its theatre-like production centre offering luxury and hand-craftsmanship that rival top end saloons.

But as with all McLaren Cars, the priority is the driver. The whole car has been designed to offer an unmatched driving experience, from its agility, carbon ceramic brakes to the numerous Formula 1 inspired driving aids.

The most thrilling supercars are usually the most compromised: their suspension is rock solid, road noise invades the cockpit and creature comforts are removed to reduce weight. McLaren breaks the mould by designing their cars to be sensational to drive yet generously equipped and extraordinarily comfortable thanks to McLaren’s ProActive Chassis Control.

The 650S Spider’s performance, roofless it may be, is uncompromised unlike most convertible cars thanks to the McLarens Carbon Tub sharing equal rigidity with the Coupe. The Hardtop opens and closes in 17 seconds flat and the flying buttress design is gorgeous.
