“Gob-smacking new plug-in hybrid hypercar sets fastest production lap record ever around Germany's Green Hell”. Motoring Magazine, 2013.
The Ballistic Missile that is the Type 918 Spyder is the continuation of Porsche’s tradition for implanting race-bred DNA into a ground-breaking super car concept although this new chapter creates parallel improvement in both fuel efficiency and performance without compromising on either.
Evolved from the Type 959 and Carrera GT and designed from the outset to be an ultra-high-performance hybrid, the 918 Spyder delivers an unprecedented combination of performance and uncompromised GT comfort with 874 hp on tap operating alongside the virtually silent, emission-free travel of e-mobility.
Using a 4.6 litre V8 N/A internal combustion engine derived from the company’s hugely successful RS Spyder LMP2 Le Mans racing prototypes, two electric motors and five driving modes the 918 Spyder is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a white knuckle inducing 2.2 seconds via the lightening quick shifting 7-speed PDK double-clutch system.
The chassis is a carbon-fibre-reinforced composite monocoque, the engine is mid mounted with one electric motor in the rear and the other toward the front for balance, top mount exhausts appear for the first time on a production car allowing the engine to breathe more freely, braking is regenerative via Carbon-Ceramic discs with Acid Green calipers tucked behind special light-alloy center-lock rims – 20 inches by 9.5 in front, and 21 inches by 12.5 in the rear, Porsche’s Active Aerodynamic system of adjustable aerodynamic elements, including a rear wing, a pair of under-floor flaps in the nose, and flaps in the headlamp area maximises downforce, all linked electronically to the operating modes of the hybrid drive system and the car can be connected to an external electrical supply to recharge its centrally located lithium Ion batteries.
The 918 Spyder is the contemporary essence of the Porsche brand in three dimensions combining thoroughbred motor racing technology with usable, liveable driving dynamics within the 21st Century.
We are proud to make available one of the most sought-after supercars in the world, with all 918 units sold out in less than 12 months, the Porsche Type 918 Spyder.
Finished in stunning GT Silver over Onyx Black hide with contrasting Acid Green piping, this car has travelled a mere 66 kilometres and would suit the most fastidious enthusiast.
The availability of this 918 Spyder offers an incredibly rare opportunity for the astute collector to acquire a brilliant example of Porsche’s 21st century engineering expertise – an automobile offering the utmost combination of performance, comfort, and style.
