Exhilarating to look at, let alone drive and as if they were scientific experiments gone very right, the McLaren supercar model line are some of the most impressive and record-breaking motorcars on the market today.

The McLaren 720S is Woking’s all new flagship model replacing the 650 S, going to infinity and beyond, by the company’s chief engineer’s own admission, this new midrange McLaren laps road courses quicker than the exuberant hyper car, the McLaren P1.

Featuring an upgraded version of the original Twin-Turbo V8 now stroked to 4.0 Litres, the 720 S produces a mouth gargling 710 horsepower and forget 0 – 100km/h sprint (2.9 seconds) … the 720 can devour 0 – 200km/h in a whopping 7.8 seconds with a top speed of 341km/h.

Handling has improved too with the new McLaren Proactive Chassis Control II following a collaboration between McLaren Automotive and the University of Cambridge which used the findings from a PhD course to develop the 720’s award winning suspension set up. It also features ‘Variable Drift Mode’ which manipulates the stability control to assist in drifting the car.

Still using dihedral doors maintaining a familial link with the original F1 along with its carbon-fibre ‘MonoCell’ body tub, the 720 has stuck to its historical roots. Of course, with McLaren’s traditional biomimicry design philosophy, like it’s predecessors, the P1 and the Sailfish, the MP4-12C and the swordfish, the 720 S’ design was based upon the lethal Great White Shark.

Its skeletal figure was designed to be totally functional and the whole body was designed to torcher air as it passes through; it’s headlights double act as air vents that funnel air to two small radiators in front of the wheels, the doors feature channels that direct air to the engine, it uses active aero from its huge spoiler at the rear and as a result produces 50% more downforce than the 650 S.
