Jahre translates to years in German and to celebrate 50 years of BMW's M cars, BMW launched the ‘Edition 50 Jahre’ - 25 of which are due to come to Australian shores.
The special edition machine from Bavaria is presented here in Brands Hatch grey and rides on a set of style 826 M light alloy wheels – 19-inch up front, 20-inch at the back – finished in matte gold bronze, while a carbon diffuser and rear spoiler are added as standard features, capped off with 50 years of M badges adorning the bonnet, boot and wheel centres. In addition to the exterior changes, a number of cosmetic tweaks have been made in the cabin, with ‘Edition 50 Jahre’ BMW M lettering on its door sills, headrest and a metal plaque on the centre console.
Based on the M4 Competition, the 3.0-litre, twin-turbo straight-six engine continues to develop over 500hp and 650Nm with power sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.
BMW has also added a number of bonus pieces of equipment to the limited edition M4, including; M compound brakes with red high-gloss calipers, M carbon bucket seats and the M drivers package – increasing the speed limiter to 290 km/h.
Delivered new to Sydney, the car presents as it did the day it left the showroom. The M4 comes with a 4 year factory warranty and with only 935 kms on the digital dash, all the mechanicals, brakes and tyres are in delivery condition.
Once on the road the first thing that you notice is the rigidity of the M4’s structure. You can feel from the first corner that the precision and response as you turn the wheel is in typical M Car fashion sensational. There’s a sense of fantastic lateral stiffness that gives a real feeling of connection through the steering to the driver’s seat and as a result of this the M4 is a car that builds confidence very quickly. The explosive torque from the motor through the super-quick and super short ratio transmission, makes tackling any twisty road a pleasure.
In short, the ‘Edition 50 Jahre’ M4 Competition feels like a proper product from the BMW Motorsport department. With 25 coming to Australian shores, it adds the exclusivity to any already compelling package from BMW M division.
