1963 Porsche 356 C

If anyone ever says there is a better burping, bumbling and fun early classic than a Porsche 356, pinch them twice and tell 'em their dreaming. .

Rear-engine, lightweight and German precision engineering... sounding familiar? The 356 was the hereditary roots of the Porsche 911 we know today. Developed over four distinct series the Porsche 356 Pre-A, A, B and C from 1948 - 1965 with only slight changes to the body and improvements in technology, the 356 C was the last revision of the model to make way for the all-new 911.

Compared to its Model B predecessor, the Model C got all-round disc brakes as well as an option for the "SC" motor, the same signature Flat-Four small capacity layout however output was boosted from 74hp to 95hp thus making it Porsches most powerful pushrod engine to date.

Offered here is a beautifully restored Porsche 356 C, delivered new to the UK in October of 1963 presented today in Royal Blue over Red Leatherette featuring an extremely rare factory electric sunroof.

From the all-around glass finish on the paintwork, the straight shut lines, the leather trimmed interior and German woven carpets, down to the painted dash featuring all the genuine Porsche switchgear and original VDO dials, these small subtle details are all signs of an uncompromised and high-quality restoration.

Sporting a genuine 1600cc "SC" specification engine today, the drive is sublime. With the improved performance coupled with the 356's natural agility and arguably the best gearbox available for the time this 60's sports classic is none other than an absolute joy to drive.

Doing what 356's do best the steering is sharp and the suspension keeps you level and planted in the corners which all ends with 95hp pushing you out on to the straight with that fabulous Boxer-engine bumble resonating throughout your ears.

With the bonus feature of the super rare factory electric tilt-sunroof, on a bright sunny day naturally illuminating the cabin it provides a circulation of fresh air and an exceedingly spacious atmosphere that a hard-top equivalent cannot.

This Porsche 356 C is an absolute gem and with fewer of these popping up today this turn-key restored and very usable example won't last long.
