The Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser is the definitive 20th century 4x4.

With the international notoriety of a Land Rover, rugged simplicity of a Jeep and the swagger of an old Ford Bronco blended with Toyota’s die-hard dependability the FJ40 is a greatest hits album of classic trucks- fun to look at and even more inspiring to sit behind the wheel of.

With 135hp, OHV six-cylinder engine, three-speed manual transmission with low range, overdrive, and part-time AWD, semi-elliptical front and rear springs with live axles, folding jump seats in the rear, enough space up-front for 3 and its signature twin headlight and bezel configuration the FJ40 LC is as practical as SUV-ing gets and looks as good traipsing the urban jungle as it does mudslinging.

The most desirable Land Cruiser model ever made is the FJ40. Discontinued after 1984 and replaced by the FJ70, the FJ40 was used all throughout Australia by mine exploration companies, geoscience agencies and seemingly everyone that travelled remotely, even the Bush Tucker Man.

The car offered is an indelibly desirable and seldom available 1968 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser, faithfully restored and finished in period correct Fashion Green with Cygnus White top, Grey trim and perforated Cream head-liner.

In excellent running and driving condition, the restoration of this FJ40 took advantage of the dwindling supply of original spares. Everything possible was replaced with authentic NOS Toyota parts, down to the nuts, bolts, and washers. Everything else was neatly refurbished by hand including the original instrument cluster and even the original enamel badges at the rear.

The drive is sensational, as we’ve come to expect from Toyota the FJ’s simplicity makes it so easy to use and live with. Cold starts are a non-issue, gear changes feel perfectly mechanical and only require a light touch, steering is direct and light and it’s road manners easily outpace rivals like early Defenders.

In accompaniment is also this cars original Owner’s Manual with an authentic patina that matches its now 50 years of age, rarely seen with these cars.

The FJ40 is an excellent vehicle in every regard and good examples are quickly becoming highly desirable to collectors worldwide.

With loads of character, tough dependability and in excellent faithfully restored condition this early FJ40 would be the ideal weekend warrior for the outdoorsperson with an eye for quality and collectability.
