WPCS 2.1.0

The most recognisable classic sports car of all time and what many believe is the best of the breed, offered here is arguably one of the finest 1967 Series 1 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 litre Roadster’s in the country.

Offering cutting edge four-wheel independent suspension that was so well conceived it would be used by Jaguar for the next 30 years, and a timeless design declared the “most beautiful ever made” by Enzo Ferrari, on its launch the E-type delivered one of those rare instances where an end product actually out-gunned marketing hype.

Constantly evolving, in 1965 the E-Type’s gearbox became fully synchronised while the seat backs became adjustable.

A new brake booster was also adopted, and the engine was enlarged to 4.2 litres giving the car more usable torque and improved tractability. Importantly, the car retained its “pure” form, with no external changes being made but it was now more comfortable and more engaging on the road.

Subject to meticulous and sympathetic restoration by Concours Sportscar Restorations, Sydney that spanned some 4 years between 2013 to 2017 the car offered is an original Series 1 4.2 litre Jaguar E-Type Roadster with manual transmission. Arguably the finest and most drivable in the country.

Originally ordered in Opalescent Golden Sand over Black leather with contrasted Black soft-top, corresponding with its Heritage Certificate this simply exquisite car was sold new by Jaguar Cars, New York in March of 1967 to a Doctor based in Sacramento, California.

Importantly, this cars exterior still features its original chrome bumpers, TripleX enclosed headlight covers incredibly, with the factory fitted Lucas headlights still inside, the correct NOS chrome wire wheels are wrapped in new Pirelli Cinturato tyres and the electronically matched paintwork carries an unrivalled depth of finish. So too does the pragmatic panel fit and finish.

Under the bonnet, hidden finer details like the original plastic wiring clips have been painstakingly sourced and re-fitted, every original spot-weld is still visible, the correct rubber hoses, riveted rubber stoppers, “Made In England” badges and ceramic coated headers all present with a spotless factory finish. Small details that underscore just how well this car has been restored, even the factory original jack was carefully refurbished, a level of detail rarely seen.

Over the last 12 months, this car received modern disc brakes, electronic ignition, a larger radiator and electric fan all installed by the restorer in the name of usability. All original parts were kept however, if the next custodian wished to return the car to concours level specification.

Inside the spitfire-esque cockpit, the original vinyl lined crush pile carpets have been artfully fitted, the hand stitched leather seat trim is perfectly supple, the original Smiths instrumentation is crystal clear with the “Important!” decal still foxed to the speedometer. The toggle switch gear is rifle like in action, the original Blaupunkt stereo has been restored and refitted, the door card trims, centre console and dash fit and finish is near perfect with a matte texture and the general feeling inside is like sitting in a brand new E-Type on a Bryson’s showroom floor back in 1967.

This time capsule classic is also accompanied by an original Periodic Maintenance Booklet, Operating and Service Handbook as well as the original jack, tool-kit and copper/hyde hammer wrapped in their separate vinyl holdalls with the original keys.

An absolute credit to its last custodian and an undeniably usable asset to the next this incredibly collectable and peerless Series 1 4.2 Litre E-Type carries international appeal.

A stunning colour combination and in excellent running and driving condition, with E-Type demand and values on the up and up around the world, this rare and very original find would make a welcomed addition to any garage or established collection and would suit the most discerning enthusiast.
