1957 Aston Martin DB2/4

When David Brown Limited purchased Aston Martin in 1947, it started an all-new era for the British manufacturer that paved the way for every classic DB series for next coming years to what would be the most iconic classic car series in the world.

1950 brought the first of their Le Mans protype’s to be called the DB2 and Sir David Brown acquired the Lagonda business for the 2.6 Litre W.O. Bentley-designed engine, which would be fitted to the DB2, DB2/4, MKII and MKIII before the official Tadek Malek inline six cylinders were fitted later in the DB4.

Undoubtably one of the finest sports cars produced in Great Britain at the time due its luxurious cabin, handling and overall performance, introduced in 1953 the DB2/4 provided a lot more room over its predecessor and is believed to be one of the first hatchbacks fitted to a production car.

The MKII variant was introduced in 1955 featuring a larger 3.0-Litre engine, more modern fly-off hand brake, slightly raised roofline and minor interior changes providing a more comfortable ride.

On our showroom floor is a stunningly restored and very rare one of 199 examples-built Aston Martin DB2/4 MKII sold and delivered new in June 1957 by H.W. Motors in the U.K. in its original colour combination of Peacock Blue over Blue-Grey Connolly leather.

Today presented in British Racing Green over Tan Connolly leather this stunningly restored example is one of the best we’ve seen. From the flawless paintwork, to the properly maintained leather upholstery and the clear and proper smith’s instrumentation, down to the amber-lensed Lucas driving lamps and painted 16-inch wire wheels this Aston Martin is sensational.

The drive is crisp, responsive and engaging. Fitted today with a fully synchromesh 5-Speed trimec transmission, the changes are precise and the gears are short-ratio providing plenty of performance all the way to the top end. The engine starts without a hitch and the suspension is tight around the corners, this DB2/4 won’t disappoint.

The DB is accompanied with its tools located in the centre console, factory build street and restoration documentation collated over the last 20 years and would suit even the most discerning collector.
