Forever a celebrity starring in television shows like Magnum, P.I. and movies like Beverly Hills Cop II and National Lampoon's Vacation, the Ferrari 308 is probably the most recognizable Ferrari model outside of the enthusiast community. Built from 1978 through 1985, the 308 was Ferrari's entry-level sports car of the time replacing the short-lived Dino sub-brand.
Penned by coachbuilder Pininfarina, the 308-evolution started with a wet-sump (for the Australian market) 2.9L V8 equipped with four twin-choke Weber carburettors offered in both the GTB and GTS models. Just two years later due to emission control, the GTBi and GTSi was introduced with a Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection which unfortunately lead to a significant drop in power, later rectified by Ferrari with the last of the 308 lineup and arguably the most sought-after example for the everyday driver, the 308 GTSi/GTBi Quattrovalve. An increased output by nearly 40 horsepower over the previous model thanks to the 308 Quattrovalve’s main improvement, the addition of four valves added to each cylinder – Yes, I know, thank you captain obvious.
Other additions were power operated mirrors, wider 16-inch Speedline wheels, redesigned radiator grille with rectangular driving lights and Borletti air-conditioning.
We are excited to bring to market this super special late model 1985 Ferrari 308 GTSi Quattrovalve, originally delivered here to Australia and ordered in a very unique combination of Oro Chiaro (Gold Metallic) over Caffè Espresso leather trim.
In wonderful condition today, this Italian sports classic is believed to be one of one Gold Metallic 308 GTSi QV’s to arrive new on Australian shores.
With excellent service history, this car has been fastidiously maintained with no expense spared by local Sydney Ferrari specialist paperwork documenting mechanical works over the last 10 years.
With major mechanical works completed only in May 2019 including a cambelt replacement, this 308 is ripe to be driven by its next custodian. A credit to its previous owner and an absolute asset to the next, this brilliant Australian delivered 308 GTSi Quattrovalve doesn’t just offer a great investment opportunity, it’s a car you can seriously grip with both hands, floor it and sprint off into the sunset looking and feeling like an 80’s hero.
