Based on the VU ute, the Maloo was the first HSV car to be styled by Neil Simpson, who replaced Ian Callum (Jaguar) as TWR's chief designer.
Its lower kerb weight and 255kW of Chevrolet firepower combine to bless the Maloo with the greatest power to weight ratio of any car in HSV's range at the time.Essential to HSV's transformation of the VU ute is a 15mm lower ride height than the SS ute, but of course the Maloo's biggest improvement lies under its bonnet.
The first HSV utility to produce more than 195 kW, the significantly heavier Maloo makes good use of Chevrolet's alloy Gen III V8.
With a six-speed manual transmission and a claimed kerb weight of 1648kg (around 20kg less than the sedan ClubSport), the 255kW 5.7 litre bent eight propels the Maloo to 100km/h in just 5.6 seconds and over the quarter-mile in 13.7, which makes it HSV's quickest sub-300kW car.
The HSV Maloo’s equipment list includes driving lights, HSV sports seats with cloth trim and HSV insignia, dual front airbags, power windows, cruise control, air-conditioning, CD player, fire extinguisher, 18-inch HSV alloys and the usual HSV extras like a build number badge, tool-kit and owner's compendium.
The stunning car offered is a 25,000 kilometre 2001 VU II Generation HSV Maloo in Delft Blue optioned with the desirable 6-speed manual transmission.
In totally original condition throughout with its “I Just Want One” decal still in the rear window, HSV tray liner, numbered plaque and HSV tool-kit this limited edition collectors edition HSV Maloo is a rare find.
With mountains of grunt, plush interior and slick shifting manual transmission there’s not much else that can keep up with the fun factor of a true blue HSV Maloo in such original condition.
Available with it’s complete book pack and both keys, this Australian made, lightweight monster won’t last long with values poised to skyrocket with production totally ended.
