Throughout the 1960s, Maserati's range of sports cars and Grand Tourers offered something to satisfy their audiences' most particular desires.
Named in honour of Cooper-Maserati's victory in the 1966 Mexican Grand Prix, the esteemed Maserati Mexico made its debut at the 1965 Turin Motor Show, showcased on the stand of coachbuilder Carrozzeria Vignale, renowned for its collaborations with automakers such as Ferrari on the Type 212, Alfa Romeo, and Lancia. An evolution of the six-cylinder, four-seater Sebring model, Maserati's new V8-engined sports car boasted an elegant yet muscular design, accompanied by a spine-tingling exhaust note, impressive straight-line performance, and an interior layout unparalleled by any other.
The Mexico was aimed at customers seeking a luxurious four-seater but desiring something sportier than the larger Quattroporte saloon. With only 305 4.2-litre cars ever produced, it has become exceptionally rare, highly desirable, and collectable today.
A car that resonates with the gentleman in all of us, the Maserati Mexico is akin to a finely tailored Italian suit. Every drive feels like a special occasion.
This outstanding Mexico, equipped with a 4.2-litre ZF manual transmission, retains its original matching numbers and is finished in celestial blue metallic with blue leather upholstery. Delivered new to the Adelaide Maserati dealer in 1968, the car was converted to right-hand drive. It spent most of its life in the ACT before relocating to South Australia and then to Victoria.
An extensive specialist restoration was carried out between 2015 and 2018, with costs exceeding $285,000. The result is outstanding, and it would be challenging to find a superior example anywhere. Sold complete with a workshop manual, this is the Mexico for the most discerning Maserati collector.
A grand tourer for the discerning gentleman, unafraid of tackling winding roads and capable of being the centerpiece in any car park. Don't miss your opportunity to view this Italian masterpiece in person.
