Saltbush Green | Saloon | 3-Speed Column Shift Manual | 2.5 litre Inline 6 | 36,315 miles | AU$89,995

WPCS 2.1.0

If there was a car that you would lean on to be an absolute icon in Australian motoring history, it was the Holden EH.

It was a car that most Australians today would remember being picked up from school in, jumping onto those blisteringly hot vinyl seats with your siblings fighting over “who has to sit in the middle,” or those long family road trips up the east coast, asking your parents, “Are we there yet?”

It was the everything car; the family car and the businessman’s saloon. Every road, crescent, corner, and driveway had one sitting there. It was Australia.

Produced by General Motors Holden and released in 1963, replacing the EJ series, it was the first Holden to incorporate the new "Red” engine with a larger capacity of 149 cubic inches and was offered with a three-on-the-tree manual gearbox or a Hydramatic four-stage automatic.

This vehicle sitting on our showroom floor is one of the most remarkable survivor classic cars we have ever seen—a 1964 Holden EH Special offered in Fowlers Ivory over Saltbush Green with Cabaret and Palais Green trim.

Purchased new on 22nd July 1964 by Miss Gladys Munday from Hardmans Garage, Armidale, for a total of £1,167, Miss Munday had the vehicle over a long-term and loyal ownership, driving it to her local markets and around town until she sadly passed away at 93 years old in 2008. At that point in time, it had been driven just 34,000 miles since new.

Shortly afterwards, the EH was purchased by its second and current owner, who has been a General Motors technician all his life. The car has been maintained, loved, and cared for over the past 16 years and has been an avid participant in many local Holden club events.

Today, the car is a total time warp with the perfect amount of patina you’d expect from a car of its age yet still consistent with its current mileage. It has travelled just 36,000 miles and remains untouched, completely original inside and out, from the interior trim to the exterior paintwork. It even has its original NSW registration number plate, which is still current today.

To drive this Holden is a joy; the motor fires up first time without any hesitation, idling perfectly. So much so, the owner was proud enough to show us a 50p coin piece sitting on top of the motor. The gearbox is smooth, the ride is superb, and the brakes are tuned to perfection. It really is the perfect Sunday driver for your local cars and coffee.

Accompanying this Holden is a swathe of documentation and goodies, including the original service booklet, wallet and manual, original sale receipt from Hardmans Garage, original keys and keyring, original registration papers, renewals, service receipts, original clutch in a box after replacement, original wheels with the original tyres (not fitted), and original toolkit and jack.

This Holden EH Special is one of the most impressive cars we've had the pleasure of coming across and is an exciting prospect for any car enthusiast looking for an iconic Australian classic. A viewing is a must.
