Experience timeless elegance and performance with the 1968 MG B GT. Powered by a 1.8-liter inline-four engine producing 70 kW, this classic beauty accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 11 seconds. The MG B GT combines vintage charm with spirited driving, embodying the golden age of motoring.

The MG B was already the epitome of the modern British sportscar, and it wasn’t until 1965 at the Earls Court Motor Show, the groundbreaking Pininfarina styled 2-door sporty “hatch- back” made its debut. An icon to be remembered, the MG B GT is the car that brought sports car motoring to the masses at an affordable cost.

Being MG’s most performance-oriented model at the time, the MG B GT featured a dependable twin-S.U. carburetor 1.8 litre B-series engine, which from 1964 was upgraded to a five-bearing crankshaft that produced 95 bhp. In 1968 the transmission was upgraded from a straight cut first gear to a four-speed full synchromesh gearbox with optional overdrive allowing a smoother drive around town and lower fuel consumption on the motorway.

A little bit of Australian motoring history: BMC’s first factory was completed in Zetland, Sydney in 1952 and here they assembled the MG A Roadster, the MG B Roadster, the MG Midget and Austin Healey Sprite. With the MGB GT only built in the U.K. factory, exportation to Australia was costly due to import duties, therefore today a genuine Australian delivered example is hard to find.

We are excited to come across this absolute gem. Offered here is a 1968 model MG B GT ordered in Old English White over Black with Red Piping which has travelled what we believe to be an original 85,535 miles from new.

Built in August 1967 and dispatched as a RHD Export to Australia in September the same year, this MG B GT was first registered in Victoria in June 1968 supplied by, what we believe to be the MGB import agents at the time, Lane Motors Melbourne. It was sold new by Brents Sports Car World in Brunswick to its first owner, an engineer, in August of 1969.

It was then held under long term ownership until its second owner, a pilot, purchased the car in 1992 where it was still located in Victoria, Australia. It is noted that this owner had the bodywork restored and resprayed at some stage during their 18 years of ownership.

Its 3rd owner and then 4th owner, a motor dealer, purchased and held the car briefly between 2010 and 2011.

Its 5th owner purchased the car in 2011 and held it for a further 11 years. He regularly maintained the vehicle and subjected it to a sympathetic interior restoration where the trim was reupholstered in 2017. He then sold it to a private collector in 2022.

Accompanying this vehicle's sale is a swathe of paperwork such as; its original BMC handbook, records dating back to 1968, BMT Heritage Certificate, the receipt of funds for when it changed hands in 1969 and a curated log of its ownership since new.

A car like this with exceptional provenance, originality and local heritage rarely exists and would suit the judicious classic car collector or avid MG B enthusiast.
