When the 911 Type 964 was first brought to market, Porsche was keen to emphasise that, although it was patently still a 911, it was, in fact, 87% different from the outgoing model.

The new 911 design featured more integrated bumpers and numerous mechanical changes.

Displacement was raised to 3600cc, producing an impressive (even by today’s standards) 250hp. Power steering and ABS brakes were now fitted as standard, and the old torsion bar rear suspension was replaced with coil springs and shock absorbers. Careful attention was also paid to aerodynamics, with a reduced drag coefficient down to 0.32, and virtually zero lift, enhancing stability and road holding at high speeds.

The 964 was offered in many variants, ranging from four-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive, non-turbocharged or turbocharged, coupé or cabriolet, but aside from the 911 Turbo and the Speedster, the rarest of the C2 model range is the classic 911 Targa.

A design manufactured between 1965 and 1992, coming to a halt to what would have been the end of an era for the 911 Targa as we knew it (until the 991 series revival), the 964 marks the last of the air-cooled original Targas, and it is believed that fewer than thirteen right-hand drive Carrera 2 Targas were allocated to Australia in total production.

The car offered is an Australian-delivered 1992 build for the model year 1992 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Targa, delivered new on 21st October 1992 through York Motors, Sydney, in special order Zermatt Silver over Black leather trim.

Today the car has travelled just 139,270 kilometres and has been serviced by none other than well-regarded Porsche specialists and Porsche dealers.

Just four owners from new, CTS sold this vehicle to its current owner 12 years ago, and ever since, this 911 has been exceptionally well preserved and fastidiously maintained, still with its original paintwork, interior trim and engine, presenting in flawless condition throughout.

Accompanied by two keys, original service booklet, wallet and manuals, and a folder documenting works and maintenance over the last 10 years.

For the driver, the 964 offers the perfect blend of modern practicalities and classic motoring. It is no wonder these 964s are so popular. And, for the collector, the Targa offers the lowest production numbers of all the 964 Carreras ever produced. Don’t miss out on this highly sought-after modern sports classic.
