Alfa Romeo has been tugging at the heartstrings of car enthusiasts since 1910, and we’re not sure there’s another vehicle that rivals the Italian styling and presence of the 105 “Step-front”. Today, it is considered highly collectible and one of the most beautiful automotive designs of the 1960s.

Not only was the Alfa Stepnose a striking image-maker, but it was also an impressive performer on the road. From the moment you settled into the driver’s seat, you were transported to a different world—the world of the true continental enthusiast. The driving position was spot-on, the steering wheel seemed to invite caresses rather than a mere grip, and the seat cradled you perfectly in all the right places. Even the seatbelt, with its fluted webbing, inspired confidence.

The five-speed gearbox was among the smoothest and easiest to use, making every gear change a pleasure, while the twin-cam engine emitted that unmistakable sporty growl as it breathed through the twin 40 DCOEs.

This Australian-delivered Alfa Romeo was sold on the 5th of May 1970 by Foley Stewart Alfa. The current owner acquired this marvellous car in 1996 and, in 1999, undertook a full restoration, respraying it to its factory colour of Biancospino, paired with a black interior.

As part of the restoration in 1999, the engine was upgraded from the original 1300 to the 1600. Receipts document every detail of the work done, with no expense spared. The key differences between the 1300 and 1600 engines lie in their displacement, power output, and torque characteristics. The 1300 engine had a displacement of 1,290cc, while the 1600 featured a larger displacement of 1,570cc, achieved through a longer stroke and larger bore. The 1600 produces approximately 109 horsepower at 6,000 rpm—20 more than its predecessor—delivering stronger acceleration and enhanced power throughout the rev range.

The 1600 offers a more effortless driving experience, with broader power delivery and improved performance in various conditions. Both engines share Alfa Romeo’s legendary twin-cam design, renowned for its smoothness and responsiveness, ensuring an enjoyable driving experience regardless of the choice.

The restoration still presents as beautifully today as it did when completed in 1999. Its most recent major service, in July 2023, included a comprehensive fluid flush and inspection. Accompanying the car is an extensive folder of receipts and documentation dating back to 1996, including the original handbook and service book. Additionally, the car boasts three Concours-winning trophies from 2001–2003.

When seeking the perfect Alfa Romeo, enthusiasts truly desire a car that has been cherished by its owner—treated with the same care and affection as a family member. This Alfa is precisely such a car. It comes with the kind of history every enthusiast dreams of, showcasing a lineage of meticulous care and attention. The thoughtful upgrades further enhance this example, transforming it from a mere car into an unforgettable experience.

Among Alfa Romeo’s many models, a select few stand out as icons of pure driving pleasure—vehicles that reward the passionate driver with unmatched engagement and joy. The GT Junior series is unquestionably one of these. From the satisfying click of the door closing to the smoothness of the first gear change, every drive is a celebration of classic motoring. This is a car that reminds you of the joy of driving, making every journey feel like an adventure.
