Delivered new on the 15th of November 1950 to Bib (Bermak) Stillwell in Birch Grey, with Biscuit and Red Duo leather trim and a French Grey soft top, for the princely sum of one thousand five hundred and eighty-six pounds (Australian).
This early XK120 was campaigned early in its life, with its first outing at Rob Roy in Victoria on the 29th of January 1951, where it beat three other XK120s and set a new class record. Not bad for a car just a few months old.
Now, almost 70 years on, this wonderfully patinated XK120 is still going strong and wears its age with style.
Still retaining its original 3.4-litre, matching engine, this superb old car is in what can only be described as well-used but well-loved condition.
Now set up for classic rallying with competition modifications, which include:
- Sandcast SU Carburettors with correct inlet manifold
- Correct competition aero screens and cowlings
- Correct competition mirror cowling
- Front disc brake conversion (Wilwood)
- Stainless Steel Fab Speed twin exhaust system
- High-output thermo fan kit
- Willans full harnesses x2
- Leather bonnet strap (not fitted)
- Spotlights
- Wire wheels (upgraded HD spec) in powder-coated satin black
This wonderful old XK is no concours show pony. The paint is blistered and cracked, the carpets are a bit threadbare in places, and the leather has a great worn look. However, it has a very appealing charm about it and has had lots of money lavished on it over the years, so much so that the previous owner kept it for 42 years!
With the full history of the car documented in the superb XK120 in Australia book by John Elmgreen and Terry McGrath, it represents a fantastic opportunity to acquire an early matching-numbers car.
