The Tony Hatter-designed Porsche 993 could potentially be the most pivotal 911 to hit the market to date. Compared to the earlier Type 964, the Type 993 911 Carrera was 80% newer, featuring an entirely new coke bottle-style architecture, a significantly improved multi-link rear suspension setup, and a heavily reworked 3.6-litre engine.

It wasn't until 1996 that VarioRam was introduced to the air-cooled 911 engine, enhancing output to 272hp, pushing air-cooled technology to its definitive capabilities, and ultimately marking the end of this lineage in Stuttgart.
