There have been so many notable 911s over the model’s 60-year history. The combination of engineering excellence, brand reverence and the sheer enjoyment of being behind the wheel makes an iconic P-car a bit of a no-brainer in the aspiration stakes. The question comes down to which one.

The fifth-generation 911 – Type 996, produced between 1998 and 2004, signified the first major change to the 911 platform since it was launched in 1963. The car kept the rear-engine, rear-drive layout, but moved to a water-cooled power plant and more aerodynamic body shape.

Designed to be the ultimate sports coupe and launched as part of the 996 update for the 2002 model year, Porsche introduced the 911 Type 996 Carrera 4S in 2002 combining an all-wheel-drive chassis, 3.6-liter, 320-horsepower flat-six with the wide-hipped body from the 911 Turbo, better-looking front bumper, uprated steering and suspension components and a host of modern tech normally reserved for the 911 Turbo.

This was and still is one of the best 911’s ever to leave Stuttgart, it added styling cues like the tail light , called a heckblende, across the rear fender giving it possibly the best rear end of any 911 and the industries lightest all-wheel drive system, weighing in at just 50kg’s.

Available here is an exceptionally well presented, Australian delivered Porsche 911 996 C4S, sold new by Scuderia Veloce in June 200 2. Ordered in Seal Grey Metallic and hard to find manual transmission, the Carrera 4S benefits from the same equipment levels as the Turbo model including Full Leather interior, Electric Seats, BOSE High End Sound, Xennon Headlamps with Intensive Headlight Cleaning and 18”Turbo Design Alloy wheels. In addition the optional equipment includes:

  • Soft Look Leather Interior
  • Porsche Crest in Headrest
  • Park Assist System
  • Aluminium Instrument Dials
  • Handbrake and Gear Shift in Leather & Aluminium

The interior is in outstanding condition, from the double stitched leather steering-wheel and unblemished soft look leather seats and switchgear.

Travelling just 60,000 kms this simply stunning 911 C4S has enjoyed a full service history with Porsche and marque specialists including the important IMS bearing service and just 5,000kms ago.
Indicative the kilometres the car has travelled, this C4S’s overall condition is outstanding and totally original.

Complete with its manuals bound within the leather Porsche wallet, all service receipts and two keys, this 22 year old classic presents just as the say it was delivered.

A big part of the appeal of a car like the C4S is that it is old enough to be a bit cool and special, but not so old that it isn’t comfortable day-to-day. While the 996 was arguably the last ‘pre-screen’ generation 911, the interior comforts and features are in line with what we all expect from a car today, making this the perfect twisty mountain road climber or daily cool commuter.
