The last hurrah and absolute pinnacle of Porsche’s air-cooled era, introduced in 1997 with production spanning just 8 months, the 911 993 Turbo S was an enormous step up in performance, looks, exclusivity, and price over the standard 911 Turbo.
Constructed with exceptional attention to detail including a single piece of carbon fiber that spans the entire length of the dash as well as hand stitched leathers that surround the air vents, speakers and sun visors and capable of blistering performance, the 0 to 100 km/h sprint dispatched in just 3.5 seconds (half a second faster than the Turbo) the Turbo S is one of the rarest and most collectable 911’s ever made.Built solely by Porsche’s Exclusive Department the Turbo S was priced 50% higher than the 993 Turbo when new and worldwide production totaled just 345 cars. 26 were produced in RHD and only 15 cars reached Australian shores.
Identifiable by air ducts in place of fog lamps to aid front brake cooling, an uprated exhaust system with quad rear tips, Porsche Carbon Ceramic brakes inside 18 inch Turbo Twist alloys, flared rear fenders sporting large air inlets, and an impressive “Aerokit II” biplane spoiler for the rear to increase downforce for the exterior and a luxurious full leather interior with generous amounts of carbon fiber trim around the gauges, steering wheel, center console, door panels, and door pulls, an electric sunroof and carbon fiber front strut brace the Turbo S features a build quality and extraordinary level of equipment not seen on another 911 before or since.
Released from long term ownership, the car offered is an Australian delivered 1997 Porsche 911 993 Turbo S in outstanding original condition. Travelled just 47,000 kilometres and presented in its original Arctic Silver over Rubicon Grey full leather interior this rare car is accompanied by a complete Porsche factory service history, the last service on the 5th November, 2018.
Exceptionally well maintained and with zero modifications this Turbo S still features all of its original Porsche Exclusive componentry. Inside, the carbon fiber dash insert shows zero signs of its 21 years of age, the original touchpoints from the carbon fiber steering wheel to the pragmatically accurate dash controls, door cards and aluminium/carbon shifter carry little signs of use, all in line with the low kilometres travelled and hallmarks of an admired car.
The exterior fit and finish still carries the famed Porsche precision shut lines, the original Turbo twist alloys with the correct Satin finish are still present, so to is the original Sekurit glass with graduated tint and the correct Bosch headlamps and tail lights.
The drive is also sensational. Every bit of what Porsche intended with white knuckled performance matched with comfort and luxury and arguably the finest build quality of any sportscar ever manufactured.
With great provenance, this Turbo S is supplied with its full suite of original leather-bound log books and both original keys often lost with time. As one of the rarest and most powerful models of the vaunted 993 air-cooled platform and the absolute end of the line, the Turbo S is undoubtedly one of the most exciting sports classics to own, drive and invest in.
With well documented history, original condition and miniscule production numbers, this Australian delivered 993 Turbo S is something very special.
