A high-tech Sapporo express ahead of its time, if there was ever a posterchild for Japanese performance car technology it was the Mitsubishi 3000GT (or GTO in Japan).

An advanced and unburstable beast featuring a transversely mounted, front-mid-twin-turbo V6 producing 210kw good to despatch the 0-100km/h sprint in just 5.5 secs, ABS, all-wheel drive, four-wheel-steering, active aerodynamics, tuneable exhaust for sport and touring modes, heated mirrors and electronically controlled suspension (ECS), when new the 3000GT was more powerful and better equipped than the heroic R32 GT-R.

Visually, the car featured classic GT proportions plus pop-up headlights, rear spoiler, 17-inch alloys, quad exhaust tips with a deep burble, functioning rear wing gills and “caps” integrated into the bonnet to accommodate the ECS controllers at the top of the suspension struts.

Brought to Australia in strictly limited numbers, just 117 units over a few years and with the model flying under the radar relative to its Japanese brethren like the Supra or GT-R it’s very hard to find an original and well-maintained example.

Having covered a meagre 54,000 kilometres from new the car offered here is an original Passion Red, hero specification Mitsubishi 3000GT with 5 speed manual transmission in superb condition and delivered new to Sydney in December of 1992.

Benefitting from a major service including timing-belt change and an overhaul of the braking system in mid-2018 with zero expense spared this 3000GT is a credit to its last owner and an asset to the next, ready to plug and play.

Inside and out, this rare find is in time-warp condition with zero modifications. The digital A/C system works perfectly, the as new original carpets, electronically adjustable bucket seats, interior switch gear and pragmatic Japanese panel fit and finish are all indicative of the low kilometres and cherished life this car has led.

Available with its original log book and owner’s manual kept in the “3000GT” banded wallet along with a detailed receipt file, collection of period magazines featuring the car and both original keys this car is perfect for even the most discerning collector.

The ideal escape machine for grand touring weekend trips away and just as comfortable on the Sunday coffee and cars run the get-your-blood pumping performance of this Golden period produced Japanese supercar is never-ever boring.
