Following the success of the DB6 from 1965 to 1969, Aston Martin released, with some fanfare the DB6 MK2. Production was limited to 12 months resulting in an extremely rare low production car. It featured larger wire wheels, flared guards, power assisted steering, AE Brico electronic fuel injection. Options included a more powerful Vantage specification and advanced 5 speed ZF manual transmission.
287hp in 1970 was more than enough, but those in search of bragging rights could tick the expensive Vantage specification box, thereby lifting the 4.2 Litre DOHC inline-six cylinder with triple Weber carburettors to 325hp. Vantage specification cut the 0-100 km/h sprint from 8.4 to 6.4 seconds!Only 71 Vantage MK2’s were ever produced and here we have one of the most original remaining. UK delivered, right hand drive, Silver Birch over Black Connolly leather complete with Black carpets.
Purchased from Newport Pagnell in 1970, the proud new owner toured the UK and Ireland before shipping it to Pukekohe, New Zealand reading 2,800 miles, later arriving in Auckland in May of 1971 with 5,116 miles on the odometer. It then moved to Brisbane, Australia, for the next 46 years.
This numbers matching DB6 MK2 Vantage is incredibly original, correct Smiths gauges, door trims, timber rimmed steering wheel and gear shifter, it shows all the signs of being an extremely well maintained car.
The engine and running gear was recommissioned in 2005. This exceptional grand tourer roars into life without hesitation, the drive is fantastic, the gear shift mechanically perfect. The sound and power of that exililerating Vantage motor is unforgettable..
This year, the car was invited to participate in the 2022 AXA Concours D’Elegance in the Coupes from the Kingdom category. No wonder, the stack of invoices collected during the previous ownership highlights the effort taken to keep this car in exceptional condition.
